LUXList Fashion Edition | Marie France Van Damme

Whether you’re packing a suitcase for vacation or reassessing your wardrobe for the change in season, the key is striking a balance between functionality and style. We talked to fashion designer and RubyLUX Dealer Marie France Van Damme  about her latest collaboration within her range of luxury resort wear and sought her advice on fashion trends for this spring and while traveling.

Spring Trends

Flowing silhouettes are in favor, effortless and graceful, it’s a look that’s easily created with oversized shirts, the kaftan and silk pajamas. Expect to see metallics in varying shades, as well as embellishments of embroidery and decals.Marie France recommends an oversized SHIRT DRESS, such as the French lace design from her collection, as the perfect go-to dress for this spring. Wear it over a bathing suit for a glamorous lunch at the beach or with a simple camisole and a pair of high stilettos for a sexy cocktail party look.

Season Transitioning

We hear it every spring and fall – LAYERING is the key to managing those unexpected temperature changes. Marie France suggests having fun with layering and using it as an excuse to experiment with one’s wardrobe and personal style. Her year round best friend? An elongated cardigan – easily matched with multiple outfits.Marie France’s tip: Carry a bag that is big enough to hold all of your layers so you can easily remove them as the day progresses.

Wardrobe Staples

Everyone has their go-to clothing items – whether coveted for their comfort, versatility, glamour or way they instantly uplift our mood. For Marie France, that item is the CAFTAN. “I love the timeless shape of the caftan. The caftan embodies elegance. It holds allure, beauty and mystery and can be worn absolutely anywhere… from resort to beach to dinner.” To take the look effortlessly from a day at the beach to a night out – during the day wear a one-piece metallic bathing suit and caftan. For sophistication in the evenings, pair it with a long satin camisole.

Travel Essentials

As the weather starts to warm up, the inclination to venture outside grows stronger. Wherever the destination and whatever the reason, Marie France shares her travel style secrets with us, “I always select around 10 pieces ‎in my wardrobe and mix and match them to become 20 outfits, I keep colors to BLACK & WHITE and NEUTRALS so I only need one pair of sandals or shoes.”

As a designer of a resort wear collection and a regular excursionist for both business and pleasure, Marie France is no stranger to the art of packing. The ease at which one can utilize her pieces while on the go provides inspiration for her designs ‘It’s about the versatility of the collection. It should be simple and effortless. Something I can put on in two seconds. I can go to work in that dress and go out at night in the same thing, and look great wherever in the world.’

Accessories can really complete an outfit and are an easy way to update a look without the need for multiple clothing items. This month Marie France has collaborated with Jay Ahr to deliver a capsule collection of elegant metallic clutches. A reinterpretation of Jay’s classic ‘Milk Bag’ – its name is an acronym for what the bag can carry: money, iPhone or ID, lipsticks and keys – this clutch is as convenient as it is stylish. Every woman knows the importance of keeping life’s essentials at hand, particularly with the certain unpredictability one can expect while traveling.

Marie France’s tips on taking an outfit from day to night. – “During the day keep it simple. At night layered necklaces work or an armful of metallic shiny bangles. Choose an outfit that makes you feel glamorous without fuss. Long dresses make it feel like an occasion.”Tubogaz Bracelets // Emerald Bead Necklace // Georgian Muff Chain // VAN CLEEF & ARPELS gold cuff bangle
