Ogle Winston Link (American 1914-2001), Valley and Train 382, Abingdon Branch, Virginia, 1956. Vintage gelatin-silver contact photograph on Glossy Kodak Velox paper. Signed and numbered "1249" by the artist on the reverse in pencil. Image: 4 x 5 inches. Mount: 14 x 11 inches. Condition: excellent vintage condition; with small bump to lower left corner (not affecting image)

This small gem of a contact print by Winston Link documents the vanishing days of steam trains in the American landscape. These 'fading giants' were gradually replaced by diesel and electric engines by the early 1960's. Link's work can be found in museum collections throughout the world. He is the only photographer in the United States to have a museum devoted to his work. Please search online for further information on the O Winston Link Museum.
