Luxury Design, Past & Present
Attributed to Duffner and Kimberly (New York, 1905-11) An antique, three-part framed arched glass window with leaded, stained and opalescent glass. It features a gnarled, old oak tree with a sunset background representing both knowledge and the end of life. Signed with a false maker's mark: Tiffany Studios/ New York.
Provenance: Auburn Academic High School (15-23 Garden Street, Auburn, New York, built 1888, now demolished). From 1898 to 1910, each graduating class would raise funds to present a stained glass window to the school. This window from the 1908 class occupied the west window of the assembly room. (Source: The Auburn Citizen, December 21, 1910). Following the closing of the school, all the windows were removed from the building in 1983 and sent to auction.
