Luxury Design, Past & Present
Sculptural chrome and lucite wall or flush-mount ceiling light by Gaetano Sciolari. Circa 1970. The light has 13 multi-level square chrome tubes connected by brushed steel arms, with removable lucite shades; all in nice original condition. Original optional stem also available to convert to a hanging light. Some wear of age on the chrome parts (see pictures). Though the Sciolari company was founded in Rome in the 1890s, the name Sciolari only attracted international attention more than half a century later when Gaetano Sciolari designed a number of iconic lamps for Stilnovo and subsequently modernized the assortment of his family’s firm. By introducing models which combine modernist idiom with sculptural shapes and classical themes with contemporary looks Sciolari’s lighting fixtures were - and still are - highly recognizable and very appealing.
