Luxury Design, Past & Present
The Werkstatte Hagenauer was one of the most reknown Viennese metal manufactur until the closesure in the year 1987. Foundet in 1887 by Carl Hagenauer the workshop quickly advanced to one of the most important design manfucatures from the 1920s to the late 80s. The most popular objects were big female figurines but the workshop also produced many every-day-life items and other objects d'art including ashtrays, candlesticks, mirrors and models.
This ashtray was designed around 1928 and can be found in the reprint of the orginial catalogue of the Werkstatte Hagenauer from 1928. The reduced ornamentics and the depiction of the crane clearly show the influence of Hagenauers teachers Josef Hoffmann and Dagobert Peche.
