Luxury Design, Past & Present
Michael Powolny was one the most influencial ceramics designers of the Austrian Art Nouveau. His work inspired many successors for a very long time and he was working with the Wiener Werkstatte and many other famous Viennese Art Nouveau manufacturers. His decipictions of puttos are among the most reknown ceramics of the Wiener Jugendstil.
Here we have a putto in a native american gown with an arrow and a quiver. Initialy this was designed in blue and white as a crowning for a tilted stove but was changed due to a customers inquiry and is therefore very rare. The body rests on a voluptuous bed of bellflowers, very typical for Michael Powolny.
Untill now we have only seen this putto in the colours blue and white, never a multicoloured one.
