In the 1920s, the citizens of Europe were fascinated by foreign lands and amongst others, Africa was the centre of interest of the masses. The Paris Colonial Exhibition in 1931 counted unbelievable 33 million visitors in six months. The Werkstatte Hagenauer produced their first figures in the African style during that time and had great success with their objects.
The elegant-lovely depiction together with the clever design of the plinth, in the form of three chockers, along with an extraordinary craftmanship make this object a very fine example of this period of the Werkstätte Hagenauer.
The marking „Rena“ is by the American Retailer Rena Rosenthal, one of the main importer for Hagenauer Objects of all kinds.
