Luxury Design, Past & Present
Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel is without doubt one of the most important animal painters of the 20th century. With his numerous animal portraits, executed in various techniques, he is a sensitive observer of exotic animals but also of the native fauna. Jungnickel has repeatedly captured the motif of the tiger: be it in the early stencil spraying techniques, wood prints and of course in drawings.
Our tiger head was created around 1935. Shown in profile, Jungnickel masterfully conveys to us the beauty of this exotic predator, but also its dangerous ferocity. The drawing in pencil and charcoal is delicate and at the same time efficiently painted in watercolours. This artwork is one of the more beautiful depictions of tigers in Jungnickel's Oeuvre.
