Luxury Design, Past & Present
After the Second World War, Franz Hagenauer rented an empty joinery workshop in Fuschl am See in the Salzkammergut region. A significant stock of various types of wood came along with the building. From 1945 until the late 1960s, very charming and deliciously humorous depictions of animals were made in Fuschl am See (until 1949) and in Vienna. These models were often made of walnut and maple wood, more rarely of exotic woods.
Our polar bear family was produced from 1957 until the late 1960s. The strong reduction of form mixed with a humorous-comic-like stylization is typical for the designs of the Werkstätte Hagenauer.
