Luxury Design, Past & Present
Michael Powolny is regarded as one of the main representatives of secessionist ceramics art in Vienna. Our Spring Putto was designed by Powolny around 1907 and was initially produced by Wiener Keramik for sale on commission at the Wiener Werkstätte. The ceramic is part of the series called "The Four Seasons" and represents the popular motif of spring. In 1913 Wiener Keramik merged with Gmundner Keramik, a company rich in tradition, which then began to produce Powolny's designs. The series "The Four Seasons" is one of his most famous designs and was produced in black and white as well as in colour until 1932.
