Vase Austrian Jugendstil manufactured by Johann Loetz Witwe Mouth-Blown Glass Metal Mounting circa 1902 Decor Olympia designed by Friedrich Otto Schmidt
In 1900, the Johann Loetz Witwe company achieved its international breakthrough at the World Exhibition in Paris thanks to its brightly coloured glasses. In addition to their unique decorations, some models were also adorned with metal mountings. Our grape vessel is an example of this. The shiny metal forms an exciting contrast to the matt iridescence of the pale green, translucent background.
This piece was commissioned by E.Bakalowits sons to the glassworks Johann Loetz Witwe. The design is by Friedrich Otto Schmidt.
