Luxury Design, Past & Present
In the years between 1898 and 1903, the company Johann Loetz-Witwe Klostermuehle designed a large number of experimental decor variants. Many of these decors could be assigned based on pattern cuts, but some are still not undoubtedly catalogued and thus bear the name "unknown decor".
This vase carries a decoration variant with rolled in silver crumbs on a yellow to chestnut gradient and a strong iridescent ground. The decor shows similarities with the so-called “Medici” décor, whereby in our variant the silver crumbs were not rolled in down to the bottom but are loosely scattered at the top. Particularly striking is the intensive iridescence of the glass mass, typical for Loetz, which successfully ranges from a light yellow to a dark brown.
