Pair of Art Deco rugs by Ivan da Silva Bruhns.
Made in France, circa 1930
After studying biology and medicine, he became a painter . He exhibited at the Salon des Independents of 1911 to 1923 , the Salon d'Automne from 1913 to 1936 and the National Society of Fine Arts .
Inspired by the exhibition of 1922 in Marseille he will renovate the rug art with a great inspiration from the African and Pre-Colombians arts.
His work is widely noted in the International Exhibition of 1925 and the following years.
Influenced by Cubism and especially by Picasso, it adopts interlaced forms supported by simple patterns. He had a great influence on rug and tapestries designers in France and England.
