Unique baby basket by Dirk van Sliedrecht, manufactured for Rohé Netherlands around 1950.
The basket is very well made of high quality wicker. It has a comfortable white fabric cushion inside. This rare piece would make a beautiful addition to for example, a baby room.
In good original condition condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.
Dirk van Sliedrecht (1920-2010) combined his work as a furniture designer with being a teacher at the Enschede Academy and the Rietveld Academy. After 1945 he started experimenting with rattan and designed several chairs that soon were noticed by furniture factory Gebroeders Jonkers in Noordwolde. First his designs were produced completely in rattan, since 1952 mostly in combination with a metal pipe frame. Van Sliedrecht's designed are known for there simple appearance yet complicated designs.
