Touching sculpture of a chimpanzee, signed with the name of the artist Anton Fortuin.

This monkey by the sculpturer and interior designer Anton Fortuin (1880-1967) is a good example of the revived interest in animals, which was taking place in The Netherlands during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. This interest was connected with the rise of the zoo, like the world-famous zoo Artis in Amsterdam, where artists could study exotic animals at close quarters.
