Luxury Design, Past & Present
Art Deco Vase designed by Theo Colenbrander for Plateelbakkerij RAM (Ram pottery in Arnhem, The Netherlands). The pattern, called "Druiven" ("Grapes"), is handpainted on the earthenware vase by painter Gerrit Baas. Manufactured in 1923 and signed on the bottom.
Christiaan Adriaan Theodoor Colenbrander (1841 - 1930) was originally an architect but became one of the first industrial designers in the Netherlands. From 1884-1889 he was a designer and artistic director at the Hague Plateelbakkerij Rozenburg. In the period 1920-1925 the Ram pottery factory in Arnhem exclusively produced earthenware designed by Colenbrander.
His works can be found in different public collections in the Netherlands, for example Museum Boijmans-van Beuningen, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and Ceramics Museum Princessehof.
