Luxury Design, Past & Present
Oilpainting by Nicolaas Wijnberg (1918-2006) of a beachscene by moonlight. Wijnberg signed and dated this painting: "Wijnberg '52"
Originally educated as a graphic designer, Wijnberg was a very active man in different kinds of arts. Beside being one of the founders of the Scapino Ballet (1945), visual arts redactor of the literary magazine Tirade and art dealer (1965-1970), he founded the artgroep De Realisten (The Realists), to react against the abstract art of The Cobra movement. He also worked as a designer of the bookcovers of W.F. Hermans and publisher G.A. van Oorschot.
His work was exhibited in The Netherlands and outside. A lot of his work is still to be found in The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
