Textile Artist Marion Clayden was the source for the tie dye fabrics used for costumes and sets for the rock musical Hair in the 1960's. She began her fashion career in the late 1970's after selling her fabrics to Giorgio di Sant Angelo and Mary McFadden for their collections. She is the subject of a current exhibit at Fashion and Textile Museum in London and her work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum, LACMA, the DeYoung and the Victoria and Albert. This dress has a sleek black silk chiffon base, fully lined in black silk and finished with a "lettuce" hem. The top is tie dye silk chiffon cut loose and full to float over the dress. Both pieces are in excellent condition.
