Luxury Design, Past & Present
A beautiful pair of George III Mahogany Hall Chairs with intricately carved rococo details. Each balloon-shaped back is pierced with reserves ornamented with delicate floral elements and wispy acanthus leaves. The trapezoidal dished seat with dimples on each side rests on four cabriole legs joined by ringed and turned h-stretchers, ending in pad feet.
This chair type with its serpentine profile and elaborate carved detail corresponds to a design for a 'Hall Chair' published as plate XVII in: Thomas Chippendale's –'The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director'
