Awesome & exceptionally rare this hand wrought sterling silver & mosaic azurmalachite double entwined serpent necklace was designed & signed c. 1949 by Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling (1900-67). The necklace has a wearable length of 17". Beautiful condition & patina. Hallmarked on reverse WS 925. This design was featured in the museum exhibit WILLIAM SPRATLING & THE MEXICAN SILVER RENAISSANCE & is pictured on p. 243 of the catalog by Penny Morrill. The design is also pictured on p. 75 of MEXICAN SILVER by Penny Morrill & Carole Berk. The design is picture in Spratling's FOLIO OF DRAWINGS. Also included on Goddard's spratlingsilver website. Spratling designs are included in major museum collections including LACMA & MFA Boston.
