Charles X white opaline coupe, the rim mounted with two drinking pheasants perched on a tooled band with leaf and berry decoration; the circular base with similar mounts.
Note the presence of the two additional screws on the back of the rim, which also show on the front. Originally, there were two additional birds, evocative of the Doves of Pliny, a popular motif of the time, especially in micro-mosaics.
Also, the interior of the bowl was originally decorated with a band of gilt leaves and flowers, the shadow of which is nearly impossible to photograph, but visible in strong raking light. (See photo.)
