Luxury Design, Past & Present
George III mahogany bowfront chest of four long drawers, the banded top with string inlay and harlequin edge over the pullout brushing slide; the four graduated drawers with well figured veneer and chevron stringing having the original enamel pulls; the shaped apron centered by a large fan inlay with similar inlays to the splayed feet.
This beautiful chest has many desirable features, not the least of which is the enameled hardware. Rarely seen today, it was an expensive add-on at the time, costing far more than the typical brass pulls and knobs. The brushing slide is another add-on, as is the banding and stringing. Notice how the delicate chevron pattern to the the top is repeated on the drawer fronts. The fan inlay to the apron and legs is a bold device.
