Émile Louis Picault (1833–1915) well known sculptor in late 19th century France, designed this stunning bronze named 'Escholier'

The figure of the 14th century scholar standing with the Bible tucked under his arm, his left hand holding a lantern, a sword hanging from his waist and standing on a circular naturalistic base with title plaque to front.

Labeled in brass on the front with 'Escholier, 14me Siecle' and marked at the stand 'Escholier'.
