Luxury Design, Past & Present
A handsome hand-made antique iron candlestick from India circa 1890 now wired as a lamp. Please notice the original oxidized finish on the iron that enhances the hand-crafted quality and sculptural effect. The candle nozzle at the top has a cone shape with a circular flat bobèche beneath to catch any overflowing wax. The change in scale to the narrow shaft with its ribbon twist design is an unexpected choice. The base is a much larger shallow pan supported by a pattern of designs including symbols important in the Hindu and Buddhist religions to denote good fortune. Set around the perimeter is a series of concentric rings that frame the entire base. This is candlestick is now wired for American electricity.
