Luxury Design, Past & Present
This handsome bespoke burl walnut partner's desk is hand made in England in the George III style with drawers and cabinets on both sides of the desk. The rich gleam of the walnut is perfect for enhancing the raised mouldings and ogee feet that support each pedestal. A unique feature of this custom partner's desk is the centre drawer that opens to reveal a fold down front for a keyboard. Now that wireless is a common aspect of computers this drawer enables the keyboard to be at a comfortable height. A frequently asked question is how such a large piece of furniture is able to be moved through doors, up and down stairs as well as around corners. The answer lies in the knowledge of cabinet making which led skilled practitioners to construct the desk in three parts for ease of movement. The table top of the desk is one entire piece and stands upon two individually crafted pedestals. These three components are moved independently and assembled on site to complete the desk in any location desired. Each pedestal contains a combination of cabinet doors and drawers to provide maximum utility while the desk top itself is fitted with drawers on each side. Please notice the beautiful moulded edge of the top as well as the raised beaded moulding around each drawer on the desk. Both pedestals have applied moulding on both the outer and inner surfaces and the ogee shaped bracket feet that support the desk are all integral to the highly decorative nature of this English partner's desk. The top of the desk is comprised of three independent sections of hand applied full grain leather (not bonded leather) embellished with a custom border highlighted with silver leaf. In the background of one photograph we show the accompanying matching credenza also fitted with a drop down drawer for a keyboard. Please see our stock number EEE307 to see the full details.
