Luxury Design, Past & Present
A fine pair of 17th century botanical engravings of blooming trees, Plates 113 and 175, the Tamarind and the Colutea Vesicaria Senna Tree from "Naauwkeurige Beschryving der Aardgewassen,” published in 1796. The author of this celebration of botany, Abraham Munting, was a Dutch scientist, (1626-1683) and the work was published posthumously by his son. The images are theatrical in presentation, with the dramatic specimens dominating the foreground with charming idyllic landscape vignettes behind, animated with goats and cattle as well as a few people. Very good antique condition, laid paper, impression marks visible. Wide natural linen mats are double matted on green.
