Luxury Design, Past & Present
Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683-1741) was a successful apothecary and accomplished botanist in Regensburg, Germany, who published the eight volumes of Phytanthoza Iconographia between 1737 and 1745, commissioning artists to execute the artwork based on plants in his extensive personal botanical garden. These volumes of images were among the first to be successfully printed in color. Plates were further finished by hand in watercolor. These plates include No. 10 (acacias), No. 291 (campanulas) and No. 363 (chamomiles), attractively double matted in fresh green with silver gilt frames. Good condition with some light foxing and slight discolorations.
