A finely carved life-size stone Bodhisattva Buddhistic head, serene in its countenance, the hair upswept in an elaborate headdress centered on an open blossom with tendrils forming a coronet around the head. Bodhisattva are compassionate enlightened being who helps others achieve enlightenment. This sculpture represents a syncretic style influenced by Buddhist art inside and outside China, that was established by the Sui Dynasty of 6th and 7th century China. This example dates to the 20th century, and was purchased in China in the late 20th century. Good condition, with typical irregularities, chisel marks to the stone surface.
