Luxury Design, Past & Present
Five spectacular 17th century hand-colored engravings, from an illustrated treatise authored by dressage master Pluvinel, who was an important and esteemed courtier to several French monarchs, and riding instructor to the young King Louis XIII, “L’instruction du roy en l'exercice de monter à cheval.” Several of these plates depict the young king, “Le Roy,” and portraits other individuals of the court. The book was published posthumously with engravings by Dutch artist Crispijn de Passe the Younger 1597 - 1670), printed in an interesting two impression process. Smartly matted and framed in matching French blue and gold. Very good antique condition, light wear to the frames.
