Luxury Design, Past & Present

A very detailed and exceptionally large and finely worked early 19th century embroidery panel with magnificent trees worked in varying textures of chenille and glossy silk. The children are playing at being soldiers by a brook, with a Roman aqueduct visible in the far distance. Good antique condition: underwent professional conservation 2013 to address and stabilize separation in the sky: label/notation on the back. Reverse black painted and gilded glass sets the panel off handsomely against its antique gilded frame.
