A fine set of open salts made in 1865 by second generation London silversmith Thomas Smily (1827-1918). The fine Rococo decoration and cabriole legs terminating in hoof feet are in the George II manner of the mid 18th century. All retain their glass liners. Thomas Smily took over his brother William’s silver smithing business in 1865, and after the sale of that business in 1883, eventually emigrated to Canada. Accompanied by a pair of later American sterling salt spoons.
