Luxury Design, Past & Present
marble with a deep aqua blue and rose faux marble moulded edge top, all the edges and cabinet door moldings picked out in matching blue. Lacca povera is the term for early découpage, in which images or designs from engravings were cut out and affixed to furniture surfaces in imitation of the lacquered decoration found on Japanned furniture. Here the lacca povera is enhanced with hand painted landscape elements such as the trees. This cabinet was originally a “built in,” now fitted with later back boards and one later interior shelf (in addition to the original bottom). Attractively distressed paint surface, some discreet in-painting. Two hinges missing one or both finials. Provenance: retains label from Caroline Faison Antiques.
