A pair of beautiful Italian walnut side chairs, with very elegant and refined carving at the knees and front seat rails, the legs are all cabriole, terminating in scroll feet. The cartouche elements on the knees are particularly remarkable for the whipping flame-like carving around the oval cabochons. First half of the 18th century. Good antique condition, a great authentic 18th century look with worming and moderate wear to the wood, small restorations and losses to delicate carved edges. Reinforcement added to the seat rails, with sturdy corner blocks added in the 20th century. Cushions refurbished and nicely padded; newly upholstered in blue Robert Allen Neo-Toile.
