Luxury Design, Past & Present
A fine provincial French Neoclassical carved mirror of the Louis XVI period, the frame crisply carved with waterleaf and pearl, the crest a bold composition of hefty laurel beaches and berries tied up in a ribbon. Very dimensional carved husks ornament the ‘feet.” The original mercury glass mirror plate is softly beveled and beautifully patinated with some areas of de-silvering and the starry sparkle typical of mercury glass. The patina of the frame is likewise beautiful in its deep patina, polished red clay bole gleams through the darkened gilding on the surface of the crest, the same and some polished gesso appears on the frame. Very good antique condition with attractive wear throughout, restoration to a leaf tip or two at the very top. Retains original wood back. Late 18th century.
