An Early 18th Century Chinese Coffer on Stand
The coffer of domed form, lockable, and lacquered with bucolic Chinese landscape scenes in gilt and polychrome on a black ground; extensively fitted with brass strapwork and lockplates, engraved in conforming Chinese taste, with carrying handles to the sides; having a gilt fleck decorated interior; seated on a later carved giltwood stand in the manner of William Kent, with wyverns at the front angles with scrolled legs to the rear, with Vitruvian scrolls issuing from a central scallop shell.
