Luxury Design, Past & Present
An acrylic on canvas painting by philip Palmer. The frame is made of recycled hardwoods, lacquered brass and white marble.
The painting depicts Orpheus who was a musician, poet and prophet in Greek mythology. His parents were the king of Thrace Oeagrus and the muse Calliope. He was considered the greatest of musicians. It was the god Apollo who taught Orpheus how to play the lyre when he was an adolescent. His music had the ability to charm the animals and make the trees dance.
In this picture there is the feel of natures energy, Orpheus and the lion walk against the wind which moves the waves and the hair of Orpheus. His hair reaches back and in unison with his fingers plucks the strings of the lyre.
