Luxury Design, Past & Present
This jewel is a truly incredible & incomparable one of a kind find. Beautifully crafted and hand made, this piece was most likely assembled sometime in the late 19th. century. The impressive & sculptural Eagle has tiny Emeralds for eyes & is constructed of Platinum and encrusted with meticulously azure set Old European Cut & Old Mine Cut Diamonds. Suspended from it's feet by a Diamond chain is an artfully constructed Ball Watch which is totally Pave set with Old Mine Cut Diamonds. I believe that the watch portion may be constructed of Sterling Silver thus possibly dating it earlier that the Eagle portion, there are also some small gold attachments for setting the time etc. on the watch. The movement is unsigned. The pin back is made of 15K yellow gold and is marked PSN. The piece comes with what I believe to be its original box from LeRoy et Fils. LeRoy et Fils is a French watch and clock company which was founded in France in 1785 & became the clock maker to Napoleon I. Later they opened a store in London at 57 New Bond Street which was in operation from 1823 through 1889 and was a British Royal Warrant holder under Queen Victoria and was the only foreign clockmaker that had the British royal warrant. I am guessing that this piece was assembled by LeRoy et Fils and either made for a special individual client or retailed through their London establishment. The entire piece measures approximately 6.1cm. (or 2 7/16") wide by 4.5cm. (or 1 11/16") tall & weighs 20.27 grams. The watch is running but I can not guarantee accuracy or duration. This piece could be simply displayed in its box as a precious, rare and invaluable artifact but better yet, it looks spectacularly dramatic when worn on a black jacket!
