This beautifully crafted micro mosaic set comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Micro mosaic is a technique of Ancient Roman art that had a resurgence in popularity in the nineteenth century in Italy. Tourists from England and other parts of Europe would visit Rome as part of their ‘grand tour’ of the ancient world, and many bought micro mosaic jewellery as souvenirs. This set features a pair of earrings and a matching brooch, each with a finely mosaiced insect set in a round gold frame decorated with further mosaic patterns. Exquisitely crafted, this wonderful mosaic set displays Ancient Roman as well as Byzantine influences.
