A turn-of-the-century gold butterfly brooch/pendant, the thorax set with a round faceted ruby, the wings embellished with three rose-cut diamonds and seven faceted sapphires, all mounted in yellow gold, with a gold pin set with a pearl, at the back the brooch fitting and pendant loop made in gold, bearing French gold hallmarks, circa 1900, measuring approximately 3cm x 2.6cm, gross weight 3.6 grams.

A dainty antique French gold brooch from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales. Large radiant gold wings studded with sapphires and rose diamonds suggest a butterfly in flight. A single ruby offers a vivid dash of colour.
